Let's Meet Blockchain - The Interview - Sylvain Metz

Question and answer

What is the book about?

My book is an introduction to blockchain technology which is being used worldwide today to transfer digital assets and information online safely and securely between interested parties while at the same time keeping those transactions private.

Question and answer

Who is the book for?

This book is for an array of professionals in all walks of life around the world. It’s for lawyers, judges, healthcare providers, elected officials from all levels of government, corporate leaders, business owners, investors/ potential investors, real estate agents and brokers, developers, privacy advocates, entrepreneurs, decision makers, artists, writers, musicians, book publishers, news media providers, as well as those in the travel and entertainment industry, and then some - all of whom will be confronting this technology whether they use it or not. It’s also for the younger generation, or anyone for that matter, participating in the digital world.

Question and answer

What is blockchain and why is it important?

What is blockchain?

Blockchain is a transparent-distributed ledger, or

Question and answer

How is blockchain being used today?

It is being used around the world in all segments of society both public and private. Aside from P2P transactions, it is being used in the healthcare industry to transfer and store personal information

Question and answer

Why is blockchain referred to as the great disruptor?

Transactions can be completed without the need to go through a third party or middleman. When you go to a store today and pay cash, that transaction is between you and the seller. Use a debit or credit card, and now you involve a bank or credit card company, which monitors your purchase. If you exceed your daily spending amount, the bank or credit card company can deny the transaction even if you have the ability to pay. With blockchain, there is no one overseeing what you buy or how much you spend. What’s more the information is kept confidential. With regard to social media sites, today’s popular platforms, or as some refer to them “walled gardens” not only sell your personal information, and claim ownership of your posted photos, but they also control your online behavior. Say something snarky about someone and you can be banned from the platform.

Question and answer

How is blockchain safer than traditional platforms?

Blockchain offers an elaborate system of encryption. All transactions are timestamped and encrypted or as some say “hashed” then blended together with “keys” - public and private information about the sender and receiver which creates a digital signature that cannot be replicated. Next is the validation process by validators.

Question and answer

What is Web 3.0 or Web3?

Web 3.0 represents a movement back to

Question and answer

What are non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and how are they being used?

Non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, represent a form of assets that can be digitized and monetized making them liquid and portable. For the artist, musician, poet, author, digitizing their work as NFTS is an opportunity to expand their presence on sites dedicated to representing NFT collections. It also gives them greater control over their work while sharing it with an even larger audience at a reduced cost. This also benefits consumers. When you buy a digital book, music, or video today, you aren’t purchasing that song or album, book, or movie per se. Rather, you are purchasing the license for that product.

Question and answer

What problems/ issues does blockchain technology face?

There are many issues that must be addressed.

There’s cryptocurrency – coins and tokens created from computer code to represent value Unlike legal tender, value is determined by speculators. Rightfully, there is concern over fraud and the use of crypto by nefarious actors to launder money. Governments around the world have either passed or are consider legislation to govern crypto, or like China, banning it altogether.

Question and answer

How is this book different from others and how will readers benefit?

This book was written to provide a rudimentary introduction to a subject that is frankly new to much of the public. It's an introduction, a conversation starter to get people thinking about this burgeoning new technology growing by leaps and bounds yet invisible to much of the public.
