The Interview - Ina Garten

Question and answer

If your book were turned into a movie, who would you cast?

If The Silent Winter were adapted, I’d love to see Saoirse Ronan play the lead role. Her ability to convey deep emotion with subtlety is perfect for the character.

Question and answer

How do you celebrate when you finish a book?

I treat myself to a fancy dinner with my family and friends. Then, I take a few days off to relax and catch up on reading before diving into the next project.

Question and answer

What’s your writing kryptonite?

Social media! It’s so easy to get distracted. I’ve had to set strict limits for myself to stay focused during writing sessions.

Question and answer

What do you want your legacy as an author to be?

I hope to leave behind stories that inspire and comfort people, stories that remind readers of the beauty and complexity of life. If even one person feels seen or understood because of my work, I’ll consider that a success.

Question and answer

What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about yourself through writing?

I’ve learned that I’m more patient than I thought. Writing is a long and often frustrating process, but it has taught me to trust the journey and find joy in the small victories along the way.

Question and answer

How do you handle negative reviews or criticism?

Criticism is tough, but I try to see it as an opportunity to grow. If it’s constructive, I take notes for improvement. If it’s not, I remind myself that not every book is for everyone, and that’s okay.

Question and answer

If you weren’t an author, what career would you have pursued?

If I weren’t an author, I’d probably be a teacher. I love sharing knowledge and encouraging creativity, so it feels like a natural fit for me.

Question and answer

Do you write by hand or use a computer?

I use a computer for most of my writing because it’s faster and easier to edit, but I always jot down ideas and outlines in a notebook. There’s something satisfying about putting pen to paper.
