The Interview - Rebecca Wells Phillips

Question and answer

Which book of yours was the most difficult to write, and why?

I am currently working on Hurricane Helene: Resiliency After the Storm; and while living through the devastation, I am struggling to keep my emotions in check when reviewing photographs and interviewing victims.

Question and answer

How do you decide on a book’s title?

With Hating Self by Boo Black, the title came to me because I hated being black in a predominantly white town in TN. However, Butterfly Blossoms by Rachel Bleu came to me in a dream.

Question and answer

Do you write with a specific audience in mind?

I wrote Hating Self by Boo Black for teenagers because I wanted to help them deal with bullying, depression, and struggles with self-harm.

Question and answer

What’s the best piece of feedback you’ve received from a reader?

In Hating Self by Boo Black, I've received feedback that the book made my reader cry and then laugh. That's what I wanted to do.

Question and answer

Do you read reviews of your books? Why or why not?

Yes, I always read my book reviews because I want to know what the reader enjoys most, but most importantly, I need negative feedback so I can improve.

Question and answer

What do you think makes a story truly unforgettable?

If I can touch someone's heart, I believe they will never forget how I made them feel.
