About the author
JZ Murdock is an award-winning filmmaker, author, and storyteller with a passion for weaving tales that captivate and provoke thought. With a background in both the creative and technical aspects of storytelling, JZ has worked across various mediums, including film and literature, blending genres such as horror, science fiction, and psychological drama.
Murdock's writing often explores the complexities of human emotions, societal conflicts, and the supernatural. Drawing inspiration from personal experiences and a love of speculative fiction, JZâs works delve into themes of power, manipulation, identity, and redemption. He holds a B.A. in Psychology, concentraing in Phenomenology and worked on a creative writing minor in team screen and scriptwirting.
An active member of the literary and filmmaking communities, Murdock is dedicated to pushing boundaries and creating content that challenges audiences. Murdock's stories have garnered critical acclaim, with multiple works being nominated for prestigious awards, including "Death of Heaven" honored with the 2024 New York City Big Book Award for Horror, also nominated for the Eric Hoffer Book Award, and finalist in the American Legacy Book Awards.
As a filmmaker, Murdock co-founded the Gorst Underground Film Festival and the COVID-19 killed, short lived Slash Night Monthly Shorts Festival, both of which sought to amplify independent voices in the world of film. Murdock's passion for storytelling extends beyond the screen, actively engaging with fellow writers, filmmakers, and readers to foster a shared appreciation for the craft.
His filmic poem and historical WWI documentary, "Pvt. Ravel's Bolero" has won over 60 international film festival awards. He has also won awards for his short noir horror film, "Gumdrop", a short horror.
